Rare Mackay shirt to be auctioned for charity

-

Dave Mackay’s testimonial committee has donated one of the limited edition shirts worn at his benefit game last month to the Perth Silent Auction being run by the PA and the Rotary Club of Perth.

And the Scottish-Cup winning Saints legend Mackay has signed the jersey — which features sponsors Booker and Kilmac, along with a special logo — to ensure it really is a genuine collector’s item.

In a quirky touch, each of the shirts worn by current Saints stars and a string of legends in the testimonial match against Dundee carried the name of Mackay — now Stirling Albion boss after hanging up his boots — on the back, along with his familiar No 2.

Testimonial committee chairman Scott Findlay said: “Dave is delighted to support the Perth Silent Auction and hopefully this strictly limited shirt will prove a popular item with St Johnstone fans.

“It’s great the auction is supporting some fabulous local causes and we know every penny goes to charity.”

Rotary Club of Perth president David Lindsay, Silent Auction co-ordinator, added: “This is a great gesture by Dave and the testimonial committee because I know these shirts are like hen’s teeth. We’re expecting a great deal of interest so get the bids in.”

This year, the major beneficiaries will be the Cornhill Macmillan Centre at Perth Royal Infirmary, Kinfauns Stables Riding for the Disabled and The ARCHIE Foundation Tayside Appeal.

Potential bidders should log on to www.perthsilentauction. co.uk and check out the full list of lots. The 2017 Perth Silent Auction finishes on Saturday, December 2, 2017.
