Fined for tus­sle with po­lice pair

A drunken Perthshire man who strug­gled with po­lice af­ter ver­bally abus­ing them was fined £400 at Perth Sher­iff Court.

Neil Hut­ton (53), for­merly of Air­lie View, Alyth, ad­mit­ted re­sist­ing two of­fi­cers at a house in Brodie’s Yard, Coupar An­gus, on Novem­ber 27 last year.

De­pute fis­cal Carol Whyte said that po­lice were asked to at­tend a do­mes­tic in­ci­dent at the prop­erty. When they ar­rived, he be­gan to strug­gle and shouted and swore at them.

“There was a short strug­gle and he was put to the floor where hand­cuffs were ap­plied.”

So­lic­i­tor Paul Ralph said the ac­cused had spent a week­end in the po­lice cells as a re­sult of his be­hav­iour.

He had been on a night out with his part­ner and in her own words they were “fair gone”.

The cou­ple were now back to­gether.

Im­pos­ing the fine, payable at £15 a week, Sher­iff Lind­say Foulis told Hut­ton:“I’m not hav­ing peo­ple strug­gle with po­lice of­fi­cers.”
