Board game fraternity heading to Fair City expo

-

In a backlash against online gaming, hundreds of people from across Scotland will be descending on the Fair City next year with cards and counters at the ready for the first Tabletop Scotland event.

Perth’s Dewars Centre will welcome board and tabletop game enthusiasts from across the country in what promises to be one of the biggest gaming events seen in Scotland.

Tabletop Scotland’s director, David Wright said: “Tabletop gaming has become increasingly popular in recent years and is a great way for people to socialise, make new friends and to have a great time doing so.

“This event will showcase a wide array of games, from strategy board and card games to family games, roleplaying games and many more.

“We will have a library of games on hand for people to learn and play on-site so no prior knowledge will be required.

“We created Tabletop Scotland to have a focal point for the hobby in Scotland and to bring together those already involved in the gaming community and those who may be discovering for the first time that tabletop gaming exists!

“Hosting Tabletop Scotland in a central location to allow convenient travel for visitors from all over Scotland and beyond is vital, so what better place than Perth; the heart of Scotland. We are absolutely delighted to be able to bring it to Dewars Centre in 2018.”

Tabletop gaming is a growing trend based on the move away from online gaming.

Stuart Kane, director of Big Dog

Discover tabletop gaming in Perth Books and deputy chair of the Perth Traders Association, added: “Big Dog Books is fully committed to the benefits of tabletop gaming and is really excited to see the launch of Tabletop Scotland.

“2018 is the Year of Young People and activities that get groups of young people working and playing together face-to-face can have important social benefits in an increasingly digital world.

“In choosing Perth, Tabletop Scotland has picked a vibrant and bustling city to host Scotland’s first major tabletop expo.”

The event will be held over September 1 and 2, 2018.
