Post Office re-opening delay ‘unacceptable’

Service‘vital’to locals

- Paul Cargill

The Post Office in Craigie has been closed for the past nine weeks. A Perth councillor is still no further forward in getting an explanation as to why a post office in Craigie has been shut for the past nine weeks.

Perth city south councillor Willie Wilson wrote to the Post Office as soon as he became aware the branch within Craigie’s Corner Shop in Abbot Street was closed seeking an explanation and an assurance it would be reopening.

The Lib Dem elected member has since received a letter from the organisation’s national consultation team which neither provided a satisfactory explanation nor a firm date as to when it expects the branch to open again.

The letter, seen by the PA, reads: “As I’m sure you can appreciate, it is not always possible for us to provide details of the reasons behind a temporary closure or give a timescale on restoring a service. I regret I am unable to provide a timescale at this stage.

“Since our previous email to you on October 20, our field team continues to work hard to reinstate services in the area.

“As mentioned in previous correspondence, once we have any information, we will write to you and other local representatives, our website will be updated and posters will be displayed locally.

“We do understand the concern that the temporary closure is causing our customers and do not underestimate the difficulties the local community will face during this closure period and apologise for the inconvenience.

“What I can confirm is that we fully appreciate the importance of maintaining a service to our customers in the community and take the temporary closure of this branch seriously.”

Cllr Wilson said: “This is totally unacceptable. The public are suffering due to the loss of this vital local service. I have again pressed the Post Office for action.”
