Boostfor recyclingin Glenfarg

-

A Kinross-shire recycling plant has officially started a new chapter in its history.

The Earnside Energy-run centre in Glenfarg now boasts a new food waste plant, meaning the facility can now process 30,000 tonnes of food waste every year, producing up to 2.3 megawatts of electrical power, which is sold back onto the national grid.

The expansion, funded by Albion Capital, now means the site features two de-packaging plants, three digesters, a large digestate storage facility, and two engines to generate power. The digestate produced is sold back to farmers in the area as fertiliser.

Earnside Energy director Mick Fishwick said: “We are delighted that Albion has continued to invest in the Glenfarg facility. The AD plant has been a consistent high performer, offering a secure and unrivalled service to our customers.

“With a capacity of 30,000 tonnes per annum we can now expand our service to help more clients recycle their food waste from landfill.”

The news comes as the site secures a new contract with Newstar Environmental Ltd to recycle retail food waste in Scotland.

Mr Fishwick continued: “We are delighted to have secured our first contract with Newstar Environmental and to be able to provide them with a valuable service in Scotland, recycling their food waste into energy and a highquality fertiliser.”
