Almondbank

St Serf’s Church The service on Sunday was conducted by Rev Graham Crawford, the new interim moderator. His sermon was based on ‘Untie the bowlines’. Alison Hooper was the organist and also read the scripture reading. The flowers were kindly gifted by Barbara McLagan. Christmas Fayre The annual Christmas fayre will take place this Saturday, November 25, from 10am until noon. Stalls include crafts, cake and candy, tombola, lucky dip and a visit from Santa Claus for the youngsters. Teas will be served in the hall afterwards. Come along and get some early Christmas presents. Almond Valley The social committee’s Christmas party will be held on Wednesday, December 6, in Almondbank Bowling Club from 7.30pm. Parish Church Morning worship on Sunday was conducted by Rev Tom Tait. This week’ service will take place at the usual time of 11am, all welcome. The Guild would like to say a big thank you for the generosity and support shown at their recent coffee morning, when the sum of £950 was raised, all very much appreciate­d. During term-time the Sunday school welcomes children to the front pews of the church. A creche for underthree­s is available during Sunday morning services. The prayer group meets on Thursdays in Burnside Court lounge at 10.30am. Choir rehearsal is every Friday at 6.45pm, new members welcome. Anniversar­y It is ten years since Rev Allan J Wilson MA, BD was ordained and inducted as minister to the charge of Dunbarney and Forgandenn­y Church. To mark the occasion he was presented with a card and cheque from both congregati­ons at the morning service last Sunday – 10 years to the exact date since he first preached in Bridge of Earn and Forgandenn­y Afterwards the congregati­on enjoyed a hot and hearty lunch provided by the women’s group. An anniversar­y cake was cut by him and enjoyed with tea and coffee. Book Sale The Eco Group is having a book sale after the morning service at Dunbarney this Sunday, November 26. There will also be a book stall at Forgandenn­y on Sunday, December 3. There will be a cake and candy stall, sales table and books for sale – 50p each or three for £1. Thanks also to the ladies who made the delicious soup and the sumptuous sweets with a sum of £432 raised for Camphill Corbennic. Brig in Bloom Bridge of Earn Christmas tree lights switch-on ceremony will take place on Friday, December 1, at 7pm (outside Dunbarney School). Come along and join the group for Christmas carols and warm mince pies. The event will be led by Rev Allan Wilson and Perthshire Brass Band. All welcome. Dominoes: 1 - Lilian Grey, runner-up - Sheila Barnett, A very enjoyable ladies night was held in the club on Saturday night and many thanks to all who donated food and raffles. Condolence­s It is with great sadness that the members heard of the death of Miss Jane Todd on Monday, November 20. She was a member of the club for over 30 years and held the offices of treasurer and bar convener. She was president of Perth and Perthshire Ladies Bowling Associatio­n in 2016. She also started the Wednesday Club, along with Anne Wood and was involved in the many activities of the club. The sincere condolence­s from the members and committee go to her sister Mrs Betsy Kettles and extended family.

Burrelton

Church Morning worship was led by the Rev Dr Hugh Ormiston during which the sacrament of communion was celebrated. Sheena McNaughton read from Judges chapter four, verse 1-7, the Gospel of Mark chapter 13, verses 24-27 and One Thessaloni­ans chapter five, verses 1-11. Organist was Lynne Mitchell and office bearers on duty were Anne Baxter and Ruth McLean. Flowers were provided by Caroline Mackay and tea and coffee was served by Donna Lamont. Sunday Club was led by Joy Gowrie and Caroline Mackay. From this Sunday, November 26 there will be a box in the church for the Salvation Army in Perth. Wrapped gifts for children, labelled with gender and age will be much appreciate­d and will help bring a smile to a little face on Christmas morning. Guild Members and friends from the village and neighbouri­ng Guilds enjoyed afternoon tea with interludes by Mavis Anton, Margaret Linley and Sheena McNaughton. A collection for Street Pastors realised £102.50. The next meeting is in the church halls in Woodside, at 7pm on Thursday, November 30. There will be a presentati­on by Lakeland Plastics. All welcome. Senior Club Grace Black and Walter Ireland were the entertaine­rs at the club, and the members enjoyed their choice of music and songs. Marie Milne proposed the vote of thanks. Afternoon tea was served and home baking was donated by Irene Syme and Marie Milne. The military whist and dominoes drive were keenly contested. The whist winners were the USA with a score of 19 (Pat Crichton, Hassal Mackison, Jim Middler and Ken Mackison) and the consolatio­n went to Italy with 10 (Isobel Taylor, Christine Kidd, Evelyn Nicoll and Moira Fraser). The dominoes were won by Flo F and the consolatio­n went to Jean Allan. A minute’s silence was held for Alex Morrison who had died in early November. The afternoon tea was served by Doreen, Ruby, Margaret D and Fiona and home baking was donated by Irene Smith and Mabby Constable. The next meeting in Burrelton Church halls saw Valerie Wares talk on macular degenerati­on with members’ taking a collection for the charity. Burrelton and Woodside seniors’ club fundraisin­g events are Christmas hampers raffle, drawn on December 21, and a whist drive on February 9. Raffle tickets for Christmas hampers are on sale. Bowling Club The club’s annual whist drive takes place in Burrelton Church hall on Friday at 7.30pm. All welcome. Refreshmen­ts will be provided by club members, contact Irene Smith on 01828 670250.

Church A guest preacher led the service in Caputh church on Sunday morning with Janet Coyle organist and Jean Rae reader. A soup and bread lunch was held to mark Guild week. Morning service will be in Caputh this Sunday. A national day of prayer and reflection for the Church of Scotland is being held in Caputh church tomorrow (Saturday) at 10.30am. Open to all. Christmas Arrangemen­ts The Christmas tree lights will be switched on at 6pm on Monday, December 4, with a carol service in the church involving children and staff from Glendelvin­e and Murthly primaries. All welcome. On Christmas Eve morning worship will take place as usual with a family Christingl­e service in Clunie church at 6pm and Watchnight service in Kinclaven at 11.30pm. A united Christmas Day service will be held in Caputh church at 10am. Spittalfie­ld Tree All are invited to join in carol singing and switch-on of the lights in front of the Muckle Hoose on Monday, December 11 at 6.30pm. Mulled wine, fruit juice, mince pies, shortbread and sweets will be shared. All welcome.

Knit and Natter The group meets in Clunie Hall on the third Wednesday of every month from 2pm to 4pm.
