Relay quick time as Perth runners bring home the top prize

The winning Perth team at the Hartley Relay Perth Road Runners clinched first place in the men’s race at the annual Hartley Relays this week.

Held in Elie, Fife, the event involved each member running two separate laps of a one-mile loop.

Shell Bay caravan park was the location this year, with the men’s team of Alistair Gudgin, Duncan Ryan, Stuart Robertson, Michael McConnell and Ronnie Glen finishing on top of the podium after clocking 56:25.

There were impressive individual lap times, with Michael McConnell quickest in 5:15 and Alistair Gudgin a close second in 5:16.

Duncan Ryan was sixthfaste­st overall in 5:33, while Caroline Jones was eighthfast­est woman with a lap time of 6:30.

The weekend had begun with 39 green vests lining up in a field of 269 for the regular Perth Parkrun.

Mark Dunn was first road runner home and 11th overall in a time of 19:30.

Caroline Jones was second woman overall in 20:13.

Three club members achieved new personal best times: Marlena Nowaczyk in 20:47, Katrina Leese 25:58 and Caroline Malloy 27:27.

Fiona Manson and Mike Dales travelled to Plean Country Park for its inaugural parkrun, which they completed in 25:52 and 25:30 respective­ly.

Scott Connor finished the muddy Eglinton course in 16th position in 21:05, while Kate Marshall completed Bedgebury Pinetum in 31:51.

The club meets on Tuesday nights at Bell’s Sports Centre for a 6.30pm start.

The Thursday night session on November 30 is a hill session at Deuchny Woods, starting at 6.30pm. Head torches and hi-visibility clothing are essential.

The club’s AGM is at the George Hotel on Monday, November 27, at 7pm.
