Club is in with a fighting chance
Perth Shotokan Karate Academy has been handed a £750 donation as part of the Persimmon Homes North Scotland Healthy Communities campaign.
The club provides classes for children aged between five and18.
Instructor Mark Lewis said:“We are thrilled to receive this generous donation from Persimmon Homes.
“Our academy is run entirely by volunteers who give up their free time selflessly.
“We strive to teach traditional karate to the highest standards and hope that the students not only learn self-defence but confidence, respect and discipline.
“The money will help kick-start our fundraising efforts for our own premises and we’re excited to be in the running for the final grand prize.”
Every month this year Persimmon will hand out £750 to a sports team or individual to be spent on kit, equipment, coaching or facilities.
A shortlist of 30 will then be created for a national final to be decided on a public vote, with the winner receiving £200,000 and two runners-up receiving £50,000 each.
Managing director Iain Innes said:“Groups such as Perth Shotokan Karate Academy provide young people in the community with the opportunity to take part in a sport that will help them both physically and mentally and that is to be admired.”
