Ross is relishing Kilsyth challenge
Scottish Junior Cup day is always special for Scone Thistle attacker Ross Mitchell.
The 26-year-old helped the Farquharson Park squad book a third round ticket with a victory against West Calder United.
That has set up this weekend’s home tie with West Region Super League First Division side Kilsyth Rangers.
“We expect a massive test from Kilsyth,” Mitchell told the Perthshire Advertiser.
“We know that you always need to be on top of your game when playing a team from the West region.
“I expect them to be a level above us but we are a hardworking team and are hard to beat at home.
“It’s always extra special to play in the Scottish Junior Cup and you can’t beat a good cup run.
“It was a great day when we beat West Calder in the last round and now we will simply be taking it each round as it comes.”
Scone have enjoyed a positive North Division season this term having worked themselves to third in the league, only two points from the top.
Mitchell said:“We’ve got a good squad of boys this season with a few experienced heads and a manager who believes in every player.
“As a squad we are just enjoying being at the top end of the table. There is still a long way to go but hopefully we will be in amongst it at the end of the season too.
“Our manager Derek Lawson has been a breath of fresh air for Scone. He is committed and gets the best out of the players.
“Everyone in the team believes in his way of managing.”
Kick-off against Kilsyth Rangers on Saturday at Farquharson Park is at 1.45pm.
