Glassfor cashat Cornhill

-

Money raised through glass recycling in Perth and Kinross will now be donated to the Cornhill Macmillan Centre at Perth Royal Infirmary.

For the past two years, any glass bottles and jars donated on top of the previous year’s total, has resulted in cash and then donated to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).

Since the ‘Give Your Glass to CHAS’ campaign began, green householders in Perth and Kinross have recycled an extra 816 tonnes of glass, raising £5,823.60 for the children’s charity.

Now, any money raised from this scheme will be donated to the Cornhill Macmillan Centre until September 30, 2018.

The recycling team at Perth and Kinross Council is now urging party goers over the festive season to remember to collect up their glass bottles and jars and take them to a recycling centre to help raise money for the centre at PRI.

A PKC spokesperson said: “Cornhill Macmillan Centre is a support service for people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. It’s the first of its kind in Perth and Kinross and means that patients and their families no longer have to travel for special in-patient palliative care.

“The Give Your Glass for CHAS campaign has raised a considerable amount of money for CHAS - the only charity providing hospice services in Scotland for babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions.

“By collecting your glass bottles and jars at home in a reusable bag, a cardboard box or a plastic tub, and then taking it to your nearest glass recycling point or recycling centre, you can continue to help raise money for a worthwhile local organisation.”

“To help more householders to recycle more, a number of new mini glass recycling points are being installed. These are already in place in North Muirton, Craigie, Bridgend, Gannochy, Kinnoull Hill, Scone, Grange and Kinnesswood, and more are on the way for 2018.”
