Perth society chief gets prize honour in Canada
Brass Central Strathearn is celebrating a milestone for its Development Band, which won a Bronze Award in the Novice Section of the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championship held in Perth Concert Hall on Saturday.
Their tutor, Tom Smith said: “This is the first time they have entered and all the members were delighted with the result.
“I was very pleased with the performance and with the comments received from the adjudicators.”
The next outing for the Development Band will be along with the Senior Band at a bag pack and Christmas Carol event at Crieff Co-op store on Saturday, December 9, then in Perth on Saturday, December 16 at Tesco Extra, Crieff Road between 12 noon and 2pm.
On Sunday, December 17 both bands will be holding a Christmas Concert in Strathearn Artspace, Crieff at 2.30pm.

Canada has honoured the chief executive of the Perth-based Royal Scottish Geographical Society (RSGS) with a prestigious medal.
Mike Robinson travelled to Canada recently to be awarded the Bernier Medal from the Royal Canadian Geographical Society in Ottawa.
The First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon sent a special video message to the Canadians, speaking of ties between the two countries on managing climate change.
The award was given to Mike Robinson for his contribution to promoting geography on the international stage. This was evidenced by his dynamic modernisation, re-structuring and re-invigoration of the RSGS and for his pioneering contribution to climate change action.
In addition, Mike and chairman of the RSGS, Professor Roger Crofts, were made Fellows of the Canadian Society and signed a Memorandum of Understanding to signal the beginning Crieff-based Brass Central’s development band won a bronze award in the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championship of working relations between the two charities.
For the RSGS, the invitation to visit Canada represented a profound gesture of friendship from across the Atlantic, reinforcing the message of international collaboration.
These sentiments were echoed by First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon during a dedicated video message that was aired to the invited guests on the importance of developing stronger economic, academic and cultural ties between nations.
Commenting on his trip, Mike said: “It was a great honour to visit the Royal Canadian Geographical Society in person and receive both the prestigious Bernier Medal and an Honorary Fellowship.
