Forgandenny fundraisers

Children at a Perthshire primary school raised money for PKAVS with their Christmas festivities.

Forgandenny Primary School is spending the school year fundraising for PKAVS mental health and wellbeing hub and made over £250 for the charity by holding a community coffee morning and performing to their guests on stage.

The school will be collecting donations for PKAVS’s walled garden at their Christmas shows and on their Christmas Jumper Day.

The green-fingered children will be supporting the walled garden throughout the year and are already planning to organise for small groups to visit and help out with some gardening.

Teacher Melanie Duffy said: “50 per cent of mental health problems are established by age 14 so we decided to plan for a wholeschool project on positive mental health.

“We feel it is extremely important that our children are confident in identifying their feelings but, more importantly, know when to seek help.

“As part of our project we made links with the walled garden and decided that would be our charity focus for this academic year.”

Janice Paterson from the walled garden said: “We are hugely grateful for the money raised and excited that their support will continue into next year.

“We are also excited about the great work they are doing breaking down the stigma towards mental health.”
