The lorry hit the railway bridge near the main entrance to Perth Station at King’s Place and St Leonard’s Bridge just after 5am on Thursday, December 28, with diversions put in place throughout the morning.

The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital with neck injuries, although Police Scotland said his injuries were not serious.

“The driver has been taken to hospital for minor neck injuries but it is not serious.

“The road remains closed as the bridge is assessed, but there is no obvious structural damage and the bridge is still usable.”

One stunned onlooker who had just come off a train at Perth Railway Station said: “This seems to happen a lot and I’m actually surprised I got through on the train. They usually stop the trains if a lorry has crashed into the bridge.

“I hope the driver’s okay. It’s lucky no-one was

The accident took place early yesterday morning walking under the bridge when it happened looking at the wreckage. It’s a right mess.”

The man, who did not wish to be named, went on: “I cannot understand why this sort of thing keeps on happening.

“It’s not as if the road layout has changed in the last five years.

“I’m pretty fed up of it happening, to be honest. I usually end up either late for work or late home from work when it happens.

“Someone could have been seriously hurt this time, though. I wish somebody would come up with a way to stop it happening altogether.”
