Waste bin pick-ups halted for holidays

-

Residents are being reminded there will be no kerbside bin collections over the New Year festivities.

Those who are due to either have their green-lidded general waste bins or their blue-lidded recycling bins collected on either Monday, January 1 or Tuesday, January 2 will now have their bins picked up on another day.

Bins scheduled to be picked up on New Year’s Day will now have their bins collected tomorrow (Saturday, December 30) instead.

Likewise, those due to have their bins taken away on Tuesday, January 2 will be expected to put out their bins on Wednesday, January 3 for collection.

Businesses are also being reminded they will also not have kerbside collections on the NewYear bank holidays, and Perth and Kinross Council say they will write to businesses by letter with a different collection date.

A spokesperson for the local authority added:“Householders are also reminded that the council does not collect excess waste from the kerbside. All waste types should only be presented for collection inside a wheeled bin with the lid closed by 7.30am on the day of collection.

“If householders do have excess waste, recycling centres are open over the remainder of the festive period.”

There will be no brown-lidded garden and food waste collections until Saturday, January 6.

Cllr Colin Stewart, convener of environment, enterprise and infrastructure at the council, also wants to remind people it might not be possible to collect kerbside waste if the weather is particularly bad or roads are impassable.

The Strathmore representative said:“If there is snow or ice this winter, our waste services crews will do their best to reach your home to empty your bins, but if there are extreme weather conditions, it may not be safe for the lorry to access all parts of Perth and Kinross.

“The council will post any updates on their website, Facebook and Twitter and we would also encourage you to sign up to the email alerts via www.pkc.gov.uk/ emailalerts

“Regular collections will then resume within five working days of the return of less hazardous weather conditions.”

Kerbside waste collections will resume as normal on Wednesday, January 3.

Public toilets across Perth and Kinross will be closed on both bank holidays, with the exception of those in Ropemaker’s Close in Perth, which will remain open from 10am- 4pm on Tuesday, January 2.
