-

Fiona was presented with flowers in recognition of her efforts Staff from Tayside Children’s Hospital have thanked the founder of a charity which provides the ward with books and toys.

The team gathered to thank Fiona Martin, who set up the charity Sunshine Box, for all her hard work at PRI and Ninewells.

Fiona set up the Sunshine Box charity in 2016 with her daughter and youngest son with staff from the Tayside Children’s Hospital helping to choose the charity’s name. The Sunshine Box supplies toys, books and games to the Tayside Children’s Hospital and the children’s unit at Perth Royal Infirmary.

Fiona said:“When we set up the charity, we had no idea how successful it would become. We provide toys, books and games to hospitals across Tayside, one school and two ambulances.

“We fundraise throughout the year and we have a lot of support from the local community. With their help we were able to purchase iPads for wards 29 and 30 and we refill the Sunshine Boxes every three weeks.

“We have sensory boxes, and the neonatal unit has a sibling box. The labour suite and neonatal unit have received knitted items and we also have seasonal treats for children who are in hospital over a holiday.

“On behalf of my family, I would like to thank all everyone for their support. Without you, the charity wouldn’t be such a success.”

Presenting Fiona with flowers, senior charge nurse Suzie Byer said:“I would like to say a huge thank you to Fiona and her family for all their hard work. We really appreciate it, as do the children.”
