Bands ready to rock for SCAA in Methven barn

- Ross Gardiner

Stop the Rain A night of music has been planned in Methven in the hope of raising a substantial amount of money for a local charity.

BlueSky Experiences is preparing for its first-ever major charity night, BlueSky Rocks, in aid of Perth-based Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA).

The Methven outdoor experiences firm will be opening its doors to music lovers at Bachilton Barn to enjoy an evening of great music from local bands, complete with raffles, auction, prizes and plenty of hay bales.

The night, which will take place on Saturday, February 10, from 5.30pm until after midnight, will see local talent on show, including performances from Red Pine Timber Company, Stop The Rain, Longstay, Brainglue, The Sandemans, Benedictus, Timed Out and Ella England.

Hollie Irvine, digital marketing and events executive with the firm behind the event, can’t wait for the night to come around.

She told the PA: “We decided among the team that we wanted to do something for charity, and SCAA is BlueSky’s charity.

“We’ve done smaller fundraisers before but never held a big event like this.

“We really wanted to have a mixed range of genres and support the local music scene. All the organisers have pulled together and as everyone listens to different music, we’ve got a great mix.

“I’m ecstatic - we’ve got an absolutely fantastic line-up and the venue is perfect.

“The converted barn is a wedding venue most weekends and has great acoustics. It has a capacity of between 200 and 250.

“There’s going to be more than just music. Lots of our suppliers have donated amazing prizes for the raffle and auction to look forward to as well.

“We’ve sold about half of the tickets so far. It’s been a huge team effort and it’s been really good to see the idea grow.”

SCAA chief executive David Craig praised the team behind the innovative event and thanked BlueSky Experiences for choosing Scotland’s only charity-funded helicopter air ambulance as the beneficiary.

He said: “SCAA relies on public donations and fundraising activities to keep the vital life-saving service in the air,” he said. “BlueSky Rocks looks set to be a fabulous event and everyone at SCAA is looking forward to it taking to the stage.

“There are some great acts lined up for the evening and it’s sure to prove a winner with both the music-loving audience and the team at SCAA who appreciate every single pound raised to support the frontline emergency response operation.

“SCAA can’t operate - and continue to save and improve lives across Scotland - without this type of support and we can’t thank BlueSky Experiences enough for hitting the right note with their fundraiser.”

The night is already being hotly anticipated by many of the acts.

Stop The Rain drummer Kyle Fummey said: “We’re really looking forward to it. It’s going to be a great night and it’s great to be supporting SCAA.”

This was echoed by The Sandemans guitarist Sean Hodge, who added: “We’re really excited to play at BlueSky Rocks. This is the first charity event we’ve played at, so it will be really good - especially playing along with other local bands.”

Tickets are £10, or £15 with transport – which includes a pickup and drop-off in Perth.

There will be no ticket sales on the door. Tickets are available from Concorde on Perth’s Scott Street or by calling 01738 840 804.

This gig is for people aged 18 years or older.
