Church The service at St Serf’s on Sunday was conducted by Michael Archibald. His sermon was based on ‘A Reflective Year-end Look at Jesus’. Fiona Murray read the Lessons, Alison Hooper was the organist and the flowers were kindly gifted by Wilma Lumsden. There was also a talk by two visiting missionari­es. The service on Sunday this week will be conducted by Michael. All welcome.

Parish Church Morning worship on Sunday, was conducted by Rev Mike Erskine. Worship this Sunday will take place at 11am and will be followed by a communion service. During term-time the Sunday school welcomes children to the front pews of the church. A creche for under-threes is available during Sunday morning services. The prayer group meets on Thursdays in Burnside Court lounge at 10.30am. Choir rehearsal is every Friday at 6.45pm. New members welcome. Church The first service of 2018 for Scone and St Martins Parish church will be held in Scone New Church on Sunday, January 7 at the new time of 10.45am. Please note there will be no service held at St Martins. Rev Dr James Simpson will lead this service to which all are warmly invited. On Sunday, January 14 the Rev Alan Livingston­e will lead the service in Guildtown Hall at 9.30am. All members, friends and members of the community will be made most welcome. Bowling Club Committee and members wish all their bowling friends a happy new year and a good bowling season. The club will resume the winter season of darts and dominoes today (Friday, January 5). This will now be divided equally between Homestart Perth and Parkinson’s charities. Thanks to everyone for their generosity towards these two worthwhile causes. Church The joint watchnight service at Cargill and Burrelton Church on Christmas Eve was led by the Rev Stevie Thomson with Lynne Mitchell as organist. The joint Christmas witness service at Collace Church on Christmas morning was led by the Rev Stevie Thomson. Morning worship on Sunday, was led by the Rev Stevie Thomson with Lynne Mitchell as organist. Sandy Duthie read from Isaiah chapter 61, verses 10 to chapter 62, verses 3 (the year of the Lord’s favour) and from the Gospel of Luke chapter 22, verses 22-40 (Jesus presented in the temple). Office bearers on duty were Mavis Anton, Jean MacDiarmid and Jim Mackay. Teas and coffees were served by Margaret Alexander. Guild The next meeting will be an update on the CHAS charity on Thursday, January 11, in the church halls, Woodside at 2pm. All welcome.

A united service was held in Caputh Church on Christmas morning and a Hogmanay service took place on Sunday. Services in Clunie Church this Sunday will be at the usual time of 11.15am.

Abbey Church Sunday’s service was conducted by the Rev Andy Graham. Irene Henderson gave the readings which were Psalm 98 and John chapter one, verses 14-18. Rev Graham spoke about St Nicholas who was born of wealthy Christian parents in 275 AD, and orphaned at age 13 before turning to the Church and God for solace. He gave away all he owned to the Church and the poor and became Bishop of Myra in modern day Turkey at the age of 24. In this role he was much loved and respected by the people for his service to God and for his many acts of generosity and kindness. Within 100 years of his death his legendary generosity and piety had led to the emergence of the character people now recognise as Santa Claus.
