Members enjoyed their Christmas lunch in the Royal George Hotel. On January 9, the president welcomed Rachel Prothero and Thomas Kinney-Nicol from Horsecross Arts to the meeting. Rachel outlined the history of Perth Theatre and pointed out that it was a pioneer in many areas, including Perth Youth Theatre. It has provided a training ground for many, been instrumental in taking the theatre into the countryside and been very involved in the community in many ways. Lack of space and access were major problems in the theatre and were ultimately responsible for the new upgrade, with the studio holding just over 200. There are around 500 seats in the main theatre and the concert hall can seat 1000. The inside of the theatre has been restored to its former glory and it opened again on December 9 with the pantomime. Thomas emphasised that being part of the community is vital to the future of the theatre and a wide variety of productions and workshops are planned for the future. After questions Elsie Craig gave the vote of thanks. The next meeting will be held on January 23 in Kinnoull Bowling Club at 10am.
