Memorial bonspiel to honour stalwarts

- Ross Gardiner

Two Perthshire curling clubs are coming together this weekend to hold a bonspiel in memory of two former stalwarts.

Muthill and Blackford Curling Clubs are holding the event on Sunday morning in honour of former members Bill Lennox and Iain Stewart.

Bill, formerly of East Kirkton Farm, Auchterarder, was a long-standing member of both Blackford and Muthill.

A past president of Blackford, Bill also played a significant part in Muthill CC where he was a past secretary. He was also an honorary life member of both clubs.

Iain, formerly of Drumlochy Farm, Blackford, was also a long-standing member of both clubs and was recently secretary of Blackford Curling Club. A winner of Muthill’s points competition, Iain showed his all round curling ability and he enjoyed leading many MCC teams in the club league.

Muthill Curling Club spokesperson Nick Morley said:“We have teamed up with Blackford Curling Club to organise a charity bonspiel in memory of Bill Lennox and Iain Stewart who were both stalwart members of both clubs.

“We have been overwhelmed by the support for the event. We’ve been given the full ice and we hope to fill all eight rinks at Dewars. This will be followed by lunch, also hosted at Dewars.

“To this and we would urge all curlers past and present who knew Bill and Iain to come along and enjoy a light hearted bonspiel and a plate of haggis, keeps and tatties! We are sure Bill and Iain would approve.”
