Takeaway needs to get OK from council
Concerns there are too many curry houses, kebab shops and pizzerias in Perth has led to a company’s application to create another one having to be determined by a council committee tomorrow.
Planing officials have recommended Rhiannon Properties Ltd’s bid to change the use of the County News newsagent and off-licence in County Place so it can sell as yet unspecified hot food in the future be approved despite the application attracting 34 objections.
A report recommending councillors approve the application acknowledges many of the objections complain the area already has an abundance of eating places but says this is not“a material planning consideration”.
Interim development quality manager Anne Condliffe declares in her report:“The consideration is whether or not the use proposed is acceptable in its own right, bearing in mind the nature and makeup of the area in which it is located – and ultimately, I consider the use proposed to be acceptable.”
She adds:“The applicant has not supplied any details of the type of food to be cooked or the ventilation system to be utilised, however the addition of planning conditions should provide reasonable protection to residential amenity.”
Councillors will have the final say on whether the application is approved sometime after 10am tomorrow.
