Free meals are helping Perth’s homeless
Churches Action for the Homeless (CATH) is offering free meals throughout January for any individual who is homeless or at risk of homelessness.
This is the first time CATH, which operates its Day Centre from the Ladeside in Perth, has provided this initiative – which will see meals offered at no cost from Monday to Friday.
“January can be a particularly difficult time of the year and by offering the free meals, we hope to encourage more individuals who might be struggling to access our Day Centre and allow us to support them and help them to move forward,”said CATH’s Ron Hogg.
“The meals are 100 per cent free and 100 per cent delicious. Everything’s home made in our own kitchen at the Day Centre using fresh produce and we are extremely lucky to have a team of volunteers helping us throughout January,”explained Ron.
The kind of meals on offer throughout January include soup, stovies, mince and tatties, chicken curry, pulled pork, home made pizza, apple crumble and custard, sticky toffee pudding, crepes with chocolate sauce and trifle.
The organisation has been able to run this amazing offer due to the donations raised from the Sleep Out event in November and the money raise at the Craigie Lights Switch on.
Also running is a timetable of free activities at the Day Centre throughout January, such as yoga, Cook It classes, a
Food at the CATH Day Centre social group, arts and crafts classes, movie afternoon, SMART Recovery and archery at Willowgate Activity Centre on the backs of the River Tay.
Ron added:“We have already seen an increase in individuals attending the Day Centre looking for support and enjoying the free meals and activities on offer.
“CATH was overwhelmed by the support and donations received from the community and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has fundraised, donated or supported CATH over the last year, which has allowed us to provide this fantastic and much needed initiative of free meals and activities for January.”
