New path into creative industries

A new programme has been launched in a bid to encourage more people to choose a career in the creative industries.

Led by Culture Perth and Kinross,‘Creative Pipeline’aims to bring more people into the industry, including filmmaking, fashion, gaming and photograph­y, by offering work experience and training opportunit­ies.

Those on the programme will be given an introducti­on to the creative industries over six weeks, with a number of workshops,‘creative space’visits, using technology, and using the new‘Maker Space’workspace at Perth’s AK Bell Library.

Those who join the Creative Pipeline programme will then have the opportunit­y to develop business ideas at the newly-formed Famous Grouse Ideas Centre, which has temporaril­y been set up at the York Place library until a more permanent base is found.

Helen Smout, chief executive of Culture Perth and Kinross, said:“Creativity and thinking ahead is at the core of what we do at Culture Perth and Kinross, which is why we are delighted to be launching Creative Pipeline.

“What makes Creative Pipeline exciting is that it offers young people interested in the creative industries the chance to learn first-hand from successful creatives and entreprene­urs, as well as profession­al start-up business support.

“They will be able to take their ideas forward into incubator and accelerato­r programmes, which will help their business ideas flourish.”

The Creative Pipeline programme is open to anyone over the age of 16 who is not currently in education, employment or training, who wants to make the first step into
