Work to begin at ‘The Lane’ this weekend?

Councillor warns start of construction will close path

- Paul Cargill

A Perth councillor expects work to start on one of the most controversial schemes people in his ward have had to put up with in recent times this weekend.

Councillor Willie Wilson says the man behind the plan to build a single house on a popular path in Craigie known as ‘The Lane’ has warned him the route will be closed for the next four months so he can complete his work.

The Perth City South councillor agrees the path between Needless Road and Cavendish Avenue needs to be closed while the developer demolishes garages and constructs his new twostorey house.

But he says he will hold the developer to conditions attached to his planning consent requiring him to reconstruct a path past his property relinking the two streets before the house is finished.

Reflecting on a recent visit to the site he told the PA this week: “Local residents and myself took the opportunity to discuss a number of issues on site with the developer.

“These included how boundary walls would be treated, security on the site, arrangements for closing the site during construction, the removal of vegetation and hedges on site, demolition of the garages, access to the site and the overall construction period.

“The developer intends to start down taking works during [this] weekend, this will firstly involve removal of the garage roofs and then demolition of the garages themselves.

“Prior to work commencing on site, heras fencing will be located at either end of the site and pedestrian access at that point will be closed.

“The construction period is likely to last four months, the developer is responsible for erecting signs at either end of the site in Cavendish Avenue and Needless Road pointing out alternative routes for pedestrians and cyclists.

“As part of the consented planning application, a two metre wide path has got to be provided on the site in future to allow pedestrian and cycle access.

“We hope that this work will proceed as quickly as possible and that the lane closure will be minimised to the suggested four months.”
