SCAA aid during wintry weather

-

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) paramedics used their 4x4 Rapid Response Vehicle to attend a two-vehicle collision on the A926 near Rattray during the worst of the wintry weather.

The two paramedics were the first medics on scene where two men were seriously injured in a collision involving a car and a pick-up.

SCAA was part of a multi-service response sent to the scene - working alongside colleagues from Tayside Trauma Team, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue and Scottish Ambulance Service land ambulance crews.

SCAA regularly works alongside all emergency services and frontline response teams - including those above and the RNLI, Search and Rescue, Mountain Rescue teams, First Responders, Coastguard and SAS helicopter air ambulances - across the whole of Scotland.

The air ambulance also attended an agricultural accident at a farm near Glamis in the past week. A woman sustained ankle injuries when a piece of farming machinery ran over her foot.

SCAA assisted with treatment at the scene before she was taken by land ambulance to Ninewells Hospital at Dundee.

A longer flight saw the crew head for Campbeltown where they airlifted a cardiac patient for urgent hospital treatment at Glasgow.

And the team was also in action assisting at a cardiac emergency at a house in Perth, attending the scene with their road response vehicle.

*** SCAA is extremely grateful to everyone who bought their charity Christmas cards last year.

A total of £650 was raised through the sale of the distinctive SCAA design cards at A K Bell Library in the run-up to Christmas and East of Scotland Farmers at Coupar Angus raised £95.56 through their sales.

Another Christmas bonus for SCAA came in the form of £350 from Kenmore and Lawers Church of Scotland who raised the funds at their festive service collection.

Retailers who have opted to donate their 5p carrier bag levy to SCAA are providing another very welcome income stream for the charity.

House of Bruar has handed in its donation from that source for the past year, totalling an amazing £5,000.

Many people choose to make one-off donations to the country’s only charity funded air ambulance. One received this week was £170 from a lady in Scone.

And others make regular contributions to the helicopter air ambulance through a variety of ways including direct debit and Just Giving.

Regular contributions of this nature have realised £717.18 for SCAA in the past two weeks alone.

Well done to four pupils from 3rd year at St John’s Academy, Perth, who selected SCAA as their charity for their Youth Philanthropy Initiative project and succeeded in scooping the £3,000 prize for their research and presentation. The prize will be donated to SCAA.

Locally placed SCAA collecting cans being emptied at the charity’s Perth Airport base this week include those from: The Country Store, Kinloch Rannoch £36.11; The Courier office, Perth £48.97; Anne Holmes, Crieff £50; Lamb & Gardiner, Inchmichael Garage, Errol £23.38; Tower Bakery £42 and Broxden Services, Perth £49.15.

*** Music lovers can enjoy a great concert and help raise funds for SCAA when BlueSky Rocks takes to the stage on February 10.

Organised by BlueSky Experiences and being staged at their headquarters at Methven, the evening event will feature favourites such as Red Pine Timber Co., The Sandemans and Timed Out. Tickets - priced £10 or £15 with transport - are available from Concorde music store in Perth. The event is strictly for over 18s.
