Kirkmichael

Talk Ian Kirkwood will be discussing Adam Smith’s way to prosper Scotland at Kirkmichael Session House on Wednesday, January 31. He will look at how the classical concept of land as a separate factor of production provided not only ample advance warning of the 2008 crash, but also the prescription for its avoidance. Describing neo-classical economics as a “self-blinded discipline” he posits that devolved tax-varying powers present Holyrood with a golden opportunity to tread a new path towards a boosted and shared Scottish prosperity. The simple tax reforms required to evolve out of the fiscal stone age were first described by Smith in The Wealth of Nations (1776) and Ian wonders if Holyrood will listen to the Kirkcaldy man 241 years on. The talk will get under way at 7.30pm. A £2 donation will be taken at the door in aid of Session House funds with refreshments also being provided. Session House The Session House is once again acting as a collection point for the Mothers’ Union personal packets initiative which provides essentials to ladies taken into prison straight from court wearing only what they stand up in. Donations of packets of new underpants of any size can be dropped off in the collection box which can be found in the Session House throughout the months of January and February.
