PULLING POWER
Skiers, snow boarders and sledgers in action at Comrie ski tow
Eleanor Cormack and Emma McCormick Perthshire pulled together at the weekend to have some fun in the snow.
Skiers – downhill and Telemark – snow boarders and sledgers enjoyed perfect conditions on Saturday as they took to the slopes in fields just outside Comrie where two community ski tows had been erected.
As thrill-seekers queued for hours in Glencoe
Chris Ferguson, Cat Carstairs and Jake McGarry to get to the slopes, the free tows ferried locals and visitors to the top of the slope on the South Crieff Road so they could test out their skills in the snow.
Andrew Donaldson of Comrie Croft put up a lastminute post on Strathearn Snowsports Facebook page alerting those interested to the plan of setting up the tow, which he had bought a few years ago but has never had the opportunity to use.
He said: “When I was young I started skiing with the Crieff community tow.
“It used to be put up in the Sma’ Glen or at Crieff Hydro golf course.
“I thought the Crieff one had gone for good so started looking for one online.
“It took me about two years to find one and when I mentioned it to Alastair Gourlay he said he knew where the old Crieff one was so we have both going today.
“This is the first time this one has had an outing under our stewardship but it’s many more years since the Crieff one has been out!
“Thanks to everyone for helping set this up and Skier Helen Martin to Martin Robb who let us use his field at very short notice.”
Snowboarders Louise Haworth and son Dylan came through from Auchterarder to make use of the facility.
Louise said: “I don’t get time to go to the ski centres as I have three children and I work during the week but I came through to Comrie with Dylan and it’s been fab.
“It’s only about once a year that I get out on the snowboard so this has been great.”
