Auld Abernethy Associatio­n The next meeting of the associatio­n will take place on Wednesday, February 7, at 7.30pm in the Museum of Abernethy. Due to unforeseen circumstan­ces this month’s speaker is unable to attend. Jimmy Swan has stepped in their absence and will be giving a slide show of Abernethy. All welcome. Horticultu­ral Society The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 14, at 7.30pm in the Masonic Hall on Main Street, Abernethy. Jim Jermyn, the head gardener and property manager of Branklyn Gardens, a National Trust property in Perth will talk about his work. The tranquil area is within walking distance of Perth city centre and contains a wonderful collection of rare, species, exotic plants. Entrance costs £2.50 including refreshmen­ts, free to members.

Aberuthven

Church The Reverend Sandy Gunn will conduct the service on Sunday morning at 11am. All are most welcome and tea and coffee will be served after this service.

Almondbank

St Serf’s Church The service last Sunday was conducted by Mr Michael Archibald and his sermon was entltled “Immortalit­y or Extinction”. Alison Hooper read the lessons, Irene McLean was the organist and the flowers were kindly gifted by Jenny Norrie. If you require pastoral services, please contact the minister on 01738 840995. There will be a meeting of the Kirk Session on Thursday, February 15, at 7.30pm. A joint communion service will be held in Methven Church on Sunday, February 11, at 10am. This will be followed by a thanksgivi­ng service in Almondbank Church at 6.30pm. The service this Sunday will be conducted by Mr Archibald and everyone is very welcome.

Alyth

Parish Church Morning worship last Sunday was conducted by Reverend Mike Erskine. This Sunday’s service will take place at 11am, with an evening service at 6pm. The Guild meets on Thursdays, at 2pm in the Lower Hall of the church. At this week’s meeting George Milne talked about local flora and fauna. Everyone is welcome. During term time the Sunday school welcomes children to the front pews of the church. The prayer group meets on Thursdays, in Burnside Court lounge at 10.30am. Choir rehearsal is every Friday at 6.45pm. New members welcome. The church website www.alythparis­hchurch.org.uk is updated weekly and contains details of the Family History Project, Kirk news, and lots of photos. All events and services are open to everyone. Literary Society The next meeting will the society’ annual general meeting which will take place on Tuesday, February 6, at 7pm in the Ogilvy Rooms on Commercial Street. The AGM will be followed by an illustrate­d talk on the RNLI Broughty Ferry by Murray Brown. All welcome. Pipe band Alyth and District Pipe Band practise on Wednesdays, from 6pm in Alyth town hall. Church The morning Service on Sunday, at 11.15am will be conducted by Rev Syd Graham. There will be a traidcraft stall following this service. Guild The guild will next meet on Thursday, February 8, at 2.30pm, when the speaker will be Alastair Walker. Members are asked to note the date change for this meeting. The Redgorton and Stanley guild have invited the Bankfoot members to an antiques road show on Tuesday, February 6, at 2pm. Anyone who would like to attend is asked to bring along a small ‘antique’ (but not china). If you are interested in attending, please contact either Alice or Evelyn prior to Tuesday’s meeting. Support Group Etta from the Church Centre Support Group is collecting for the charity shop in March and requests donations of any unwanted items. Church Sunday’s service was conducted by Rev Andy Graham and the readings Isaiah chapter 61, verses 1-3, Psalm 37, verses 5-9, and Matthew chapter five, verses 1-5, were given by John Morison. Come along and enjoy lunch, a chat and the fellowship. This is open to all and everyone will be made welcome. Old Tyme Dance The next Old Tyme Dance is on Friday, February 9, in the Institute from 8pm to 11pm. Leonard Brown will be providing the music for the evening. Tickets cost £5 which includes tea and biscuits, and are available at the door on the night. All proceeds from the event will go to charity. Pancake Coffee Morning Friends of Guiding invite everyone to their annual pancake coffee morning on Saturday, February 10, in the church Perth Leisure Pool spectrum, there will be no features, no sirens and no loud speaker announceme­nts. Entry is £2.40 for children, and free for carers.

Lent Study Course ‘Christ and the Chocolater­ie’ is a Lent course inspired by the Oscar-nominated film ‘Chocolat’. Burrelton

Church The service last Sunday was led by Rev Stevie Thomson. Lynne Mitchell read the lessons and Moira Ormiston was the organist. The Busy Bees toddlers’ group runs on Tuesday mornings, from 10am to 11.30am, all welcome. The newly opened community cafe is open to all every Tuesday, from 2pm to 4pm in the church hall. There is no charge for tea, coffee or home baking and organisers are keen for as many people as possible to support the venture. Burrelton and Woodside youth club is open to all young people from P6 to S6 every Sunday, from 6.30pm to 8pm, with a programme of different activities each week. Caputh

Church Rosemary Patterson completed her six months’ training by conducting the service to a united congregati­on in Caputh Church last Sunday morning. Janet Coyle was the organist with lessons read by Sandra Service and Martin Bristow. At the close of the service, Rev Peggy Ewart Roberts thanked Rosemary for her interest in the parish and willingnes­s to help at all times. Flowers and a monetary gift were presented by the session clerks. Morning service will be held in Clunie Church this Sunday, at the usual time of 11.15am. Lunch will be served in the Caputh session room at 12.30pm on Tuesday, February 13, and the guild will meet the following evening at 7pm. The speaker for the evening will be from the Salvation Army. This event is open to all. SWI The February meeting will be a members’ night and will be held in Spittalfie­ld Bowling Club, where members can enjoy an evening of carpet bowling with expert tuition. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 6, at 7.15pm. All will be made welcome.

Clunie

Knit and Natter The group meets in Clunie Hall on the third Wednesday of every month, from 2pm to 4pm. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 21. Whist The next whist event in Clunie Hall will be on Friday, February 9, at 7.30pm. All welcome.

Coupar Angus

Abbey Church Sunday’s service was conducted by the Rev Andy Graham who also read the lessons from Isaiah chapter 61, verses 1-3, Psalm 37, verses 5-9, and Matthew chapter five, verses 1-5. In his sermon the minister referred to the Beatitude “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted”. Austin Wilkie, organist, played Prelude in D Major by Thomas Adams, Album Leaf by R Schumann and Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond, by special request of the congregati­on. The prayer group meet on Wednesdays, at 2pm at the Abbey. All are welcome to come along and join in. The Bible study group meet on Wednesdays, at 7.15pm in the Abbey, when they will look at Amos chapters 3-4. All are invited to come along and join in the discussion­s, laughter and fellowship. The next Friendly Friday is today (Friday) from 1.30pm to 3pm in the Abbey, and is open to the community. Come along and enjoy tea and coffee and a tasty bite among friends. There is a new tea rota on the notice board in the Abbey. Please add your name to this valuable outreach which allows all who come along on Sundays to enjoy tea and coffee and fellowship.
