Rattray nets title of Saints school

-

Rattray Primary has become an official St Johnstone FC school.

The school receives a number of benefits from the arrangement, including a visit from coaching staff and players from the U20 team.

They also have a new information board at the entrance to the school which is updated with news from the McDiarmid Park club.

Primary three teacher Diane Johnstone – herself a fan of the Fair City side – explained:“St Johnstone FC contacted us asking if we would like to become an official St Johnstone school and we jumped at the chance.

“As well as the information board we also receive discounted tickets for some games and a coaching skills day with pupils.

“Two players from the club’s U20 team came out to spend a day with the pupils last week, which was just fantastic.

“Pupils from six classes at the school had a coaching session with the players and the children all enjoyed it and were really keen to take part. It was all about cooperative learning and team spirit.

“Some of our pupils even play with the St Johnstone youth teams so was great for them as well.”

Megan Moss, communications and marketing manager for St Johnstone, said:“The visit by two players from our U20 team to Rattray Primary School last week was part of two initiatives we are currently running.

“A few schools in the area are specially sanctioned Saints schools which means, among other things, that they have a Saints wall at the school, we bring in players to run coaching sessions with them, and they are invited to McDiarmid Park for a Saints experience day.

“We are also running a programme with players from our U20 team going out into various schools in the region, one of which was Rattray, to get them to coach pupils.

“It is good for the players as it helps them improve their coaching skills and it is good for the kids as they get to

St Johnstone FC U20 player Ben Quigley with P4 pupils meet the players from the team.

“We had a really positive response from Rattray, and are delighted to be working with them.

“It’s great working with schools that are keen to have us in and the pupils at Rattray Primary School were really well behaved and great to work with.”
