PoW legacy helps Rural Hall revamp
Community groups in Comrie will soon be benefiting from the money left to the village by former Cultybraggan Camp prisoner of war Heinrich Steinmeyer.
And one of the first recipients of funding will be Comrie’s Rural Hall.
Following the village vote in November, where locals selected worthy causes and projects to benefit from the bequest, the Legacy Committee has decided that it will focus on the top 10 single and combined proposals.
One of the top priorities voted for by people in the village was to make a contribution towards Comrie’s Rural Hall improvements and the committee has approved the application from the hall trustees for match funding in order to support the proposed modernisation of the hall.
It is hoped that this legacy grant will provide the match funds required by regional and national funders, helping secure grants from them for the Rural Hall project within the next few months. This will enable the much- needed development work to go ahead to secure the future of the traditional village hall.
Speaking on behalf of the Rural Hall trustees, Joyce Carnegie said: “We are delighted to get the match funding confirmed. We can now put applications to other funding sources who needed this confirmed before considering our request.”
The Legacy Committee has also agreed on the information required from local community organisations, which need funding to carry out specific developments for older people.
The committee has drawn up an application form to gather this information.
Details of the 10 priority areas from the community vote, the eligibility criteria, the application form and the process to be followed will soon be available on the Comrie Development Trust website.
