Coupar boss Logan in seventh heaven

- Matthew Gallagher

Coupar Angus manager Logan McConachie watched his side smash SEVEN beyond Lochee Harp on Saturday.

Now the Foxhall Park boss wants more of the same for the remainder of the season.

After Lochee went in front, Alex Gibb and Arran Fraser both netted hat-tricks - with Allan Leith also getting in on the act.

“Saturday was a great day, marking a victory that must be one of the best in the club’s history,” McConachie told the Perthshire Advertiser.

“The players have been putting in a lot of hard graft over our unplanned winter break and we’ve all sat down, got a plan for the future and it’s helped give everyone a purpose.

“We talked about the embarrassment of the start of the season and how good it would be to get one back over them.

“We’ve got a real dangerous front line and lots of lads chip in with goals, so we always aim to out score our opponents but Saturday was special.

“It’s a huge boost and it’s kicked off our 2018 in the right manner.

“We’ve got enough games left to make a dent in the league standings and that is what we aim to do.”

There was a comfortable 4-0 North Division victory for Scone Thistle against Forfar Albion at the weekend.

Ben Moffat, Arran McKay, Max Avolio and Dean Boyd made sure it was a productive afternoon for the Farquharson Park squad.

“We were pleased to keep a clean sheet and pick up three points after a couple of poor results,” said Jags boss Derek Lawson.

“I felt that we dominated possession and created plenty of opportunities which was very pleasing.

“I didn’t think we ever looked like losing the game and restricted Forfar Albion to few chances.”

Kinnoull, meanwhile, settled for a 2-2 draw at home to Lochore Welfare.

Mark Smith gave the Perth side an early lead before the visitors turned the game on its head to lead through Logan Donaldson and Aaron Wood.

But Jack Hutchison levelled the match in the 74th minute to salvage a point.

It was raining goals at Davie Park but Blairgowrie fell to a 5-3 defeat against Dundee Violet.

Darren Neave netted twice with Matty Adam also on the scoresheet for the east Perthshire side.

Luncarty shocked East Premier side Fauldhouse United to advance into round three of the East of Scotland Cup.

Jon Kelly’s squad were in control of the contest for large chunks with Richard Doig’s first half strike proving to be the difference.

“I thought the lads were superb from start to finish on Saturday,” Kelly said. “Fauldhouse could not have any complaints about the result.

“We dominated 80 per cent of the game and if it was not for some excellent goalkeeping we would have

Ben Moffat opened the scoring for Scone been out of sight. I know this team can compete at a higher level but we need to deal with the job in hand which is getting promotion out of our league.

“It is not an easy league to get out of and we know it will require a lot of hard work.”

The Bleachers will take on Dalkeith in the next round and Kelly added: “We have a home tie and again we will go into this game as the underdog, but that suits us.

“If we work hard in this cup you never know where it may take you.”
