Fisher’s harks back to castle historic past

-

A popular Highland Perthshire restaurant has been brought back to its former glory.

The Castle Restaurant at the Fisher’s Hotel in Pitlochry recently re-opened after being given a complete revamp following a fire at the hotel in January, 2017.

And the work, which has seen the original stonework retained, has unearthed some hidden gems – such as a fireplace which is already proving popular with staff and customers alike at the historic venue.

Before the first guests were welcomed in 1830, the original building where the hotel currently stands was a small castle. The turret remains a striking feature still visible from the car park.

Fisher’s Hotel came into being after the building was extended as a result of a tourism boom in the Highland Perthshire town in the wake of a visit by Queen Victoria. Other notable guests in the 1800s included William Gladstone – who stayed during his tenure as Chancellor of the Exchequer – and Andrew Delicious local produce

Carnegie, the famous Scottish philanthropist who travelled from his home in New York.

The visitors’ book from that period is available for viewing in the hotel.

On the modern era, general manager Brian Wishart said: “Head chef Chris Roberti and restaurant manager Levi Papp welcome diners to the Castle Restaurant with a mix of traditional Scottish cooking and modern influences – utilising Perthshire’s famous larder of local ingredients, which Chris has at his disposal.”

Brian added: “If you have any dietary requirements, please let Levi or a member of his team know and they will be happy to assist.”
