Wright’s quick to put faith in Millar

-

Tommy Wright says Chris Millar will have a big part to play in the Scottish Premiership run-in.

The St Johnstone manager subbed the midfielder before the half-hour mark in the club’s Scottish Cup exit against Hearts on Saturday.

Millar wasn’t pleased with the decision but Wright said: “Chris Millar is a member of the squad like anyone else and obviously he wasn’t happy about coming off. And that’s a good thing in my book.

“I don’t want players smiling when they are taken off. I made Millar is very much in Wright’s plans

the change because Chris is a defensive midfielder and it was a cup game that we wanted to win. Would I have made a change so early in a league game? Probably not.

“But I wanted another striker on after going a goal down early on.

“Chris has a big part to play between now and the end of the season. He has been told that. I know what Chris will do for me and the team.

“I am here to make decisions and there’s no problem with Chris. End of story.”

Wright has welcomed Welsh

international George Williams, on loan from Fulham, to McDiarmid Park this week.

The winger will be available for Sunday’s league clash with Celtic at Parkhead. But there is bad news regarding Stefan Scougall.

“George Williams will be ready for Celtic and hopefully give us a spark, Brian Easton will be coming back and David McMillan should be back soon, maybe for Ross County,”Wright said.

“He won’t make the Celtic game. He is still with the physio and hasn’t been back on the grass yet.

“Stefan Scougall has been really unfortunate. It was a freak accident. When the physio was reading out what was wrong with him initially I thought he was talking about two or three different players.

“He has done quite a bit of damage. The likelihood is that we will be looking at next season for him.

“He probably will have to see an ankle specialist in London and possibly have an operation. That’s disappointing.”
