Young musicians entertain crowd

-

Young musicians wowed the crowd Talented young musicians from across Perth and Kinross joined together last weekend to delight audiences with a night of light music.

The Rotary Club of Perth St Johns held the fundraising concert in St Ninian’s Cathedral in the Fair City on Friday, February 9, showcasing some of the best young musicians from across the region.

The concert featured young musicians and their tutors from Perth and Kinross Council’s instrumental music service performing a programme of popular hits.

The event managed to raise £680 for local charities.

Rotary Club members have chosen to split the money raised between PKAVS and the instrumental music service.

Gail MacKay, Rotary president, said:“Friday’s concert was a great example of the important work Rotary carries out in the community.

“The evening brought together young people, the faith group of the church, parents and families, and the Rotary community to celebrate an evening of music and raise funds for two important community causes.

“We are grateful to all who supported this event and to the young people who showcased their talents.”

The ‘Little Light Music’ began with a guitar ensemble, featuring some children as young as eight years old, playing Clocks by Coldplay.

This was followed by the percussion ensemble - who recently won the Scottish youth percussion championships playing an arrangement of tunes including well-known hits from Ozzy Osbourne, ABBA and Pharrell Williams.

Perth and Kinross’wind orchestra, conducted by Phillip Alexander, closed the evening’s entertainment in the city’s cathedral with a“powerful and inspiring”mix of works by a number of contemporary orchestral composers.
