Racewall fundraiser earns Cornhill Macmillan £3500

- Ross Gardiner

A Perth pair took to the Racewall for the first time ever last month to raise money for the Fair City’s Cornhill Macmillan Centre - and racked up over £3,500.

Alastair Fleming and John Tosh appeared in pro-stock cars - painted pink - at Cowdenbeath’s Knockhill circuit for the first race of 2018 on Sunday, January 7, in memory of John’s father Raymond who passed away in September.

Speaking to the PA, Alastair, a close friend of Raymond and John’s explained:“When John’s dad Raymond passed away up at Cornhill, we had a talk and we wanted to do something to raise money for the centre.

“There was a whole team behind the project were very helpful. We had help from people in Aberdeen and down south with providing the car.

“The racing community is really tight knit and everybody looks out for everybody. In the end, there was a group of about 10 or 11 people who all chipped in tho help build and paint the car.

“Raymond was a huge stock car enthusiast and I’ve been involved in stock car racing for years, but this was the first time I’d ever raced - my wife said that I’d be hooked and she was right!

“We had raised over £2000 by the time the race came around, and that’s up to just over £3500 now.

“It was a really good thing to do for Cornhill and I know they’ll appreciate it. The whole team there are fantastic.”

In what was also his first Racewall, John won the first heat on the day.
