Newburgh

Cat Sanctuary Tiger, a 17-year-old tortoiseshell cat, came into Whinnybank Cat Sanctuary eight weeks ago. The council got in touch with Sue after the cat’s owner was evicted from her cottage. The owner was told where her cat had been taken, but unfortunately, Sue did not receive a single call from her. By law, after two weeks Sue is allowed to re-home the cat. The elderly cat has now found a lovely foster home, and any vet care required will be paid for by the Whinnybank sanctuary. If anyone has a spare microwave they would be able to donate for use in the sanctuary’s Auchtermuchty shop, they should get in touch with Sue. Thanks are extended to Muchty Monkeys, Little Acorns and Newburgh Parish Church for their recent donations of books, toys and bric-a-brac. If you can offer a home to a cat, help at fundraising events, in the shops or at the sanctuary, please call Sue on 01337 840414, or visit www.catchat.org/adoption/ fife.html or www.whinnybank.org.uk. For further details, contact Richard Horoban on richardwhorobin@tomcroy.co.uk. Football Vale of Atholl played a match in the Perthshire Cup, which resulted in a score of Vale 2 - Vale of Earn 6. The team were: MacDonald, Cameron, Tritton, Berry, Crowe, Robinson, Smillie, Carr, McDougall, Robertson, McNeil and Doig. Vale’s troubles continued on Saturday. Baxter strained a hamstring in training and did not recover and another two of the intended squad failed to appear. This added to four on holiday, one suspended and two working which meant that new manager Paul McNeil had to start. Despite all this, Vale went in at the break two up, with excellent goals from McDougall and Robertson (both from passes by Smillie). The visitors had the majority of the play but Vale’s back line, boyed by the return of Tritton coped comfortably. The second half was a different story. Vale of Earn scored from the start and added another two, all excellent strikes from the same player. Vale’s disciplined showed from the first half, but cracked and they started making a few mistakes. Along with the lack of legs in some of the more experienced players who had volunteered to help out, saw Vale lose another three goals. The last 15 minutes the team had only 10 players with Cameron injured and having to go off. The first division side, however, showed their class in the second half and ran out deserved winners. Vale had no failures in the first half, but tired in the second and with no subs and nothing to fall back on. Man of the match was R Tritton. Vale’s new manager, Paul McNeil, has announced that he has re-signed Steven Henderson, Robert Tritton and Brian Taylor. Tomorrow Vale will be in Perth to play Tay Thistle in a league game with a 2pm start. Vale of Atholl FC are sponsored by R.W. Bell Building Services. Flower Club The demonstrator at the February meeting is Pamela Galloway with a title of ‘How did I get here?’. The club competition will be ‘All wrapped up’.
