Top cats ready to strut their stuff at shelter

Refuge to hold fun fundraising day

- Rachel Clark

Rhonda Dick with one of the stars of the cat show Furry friends from across Perth and Kinross will be strutting their stuff on the catwalk next month.

The Causeway Cattery – part of Fife Cat Shelter – near Kinross is set to host a fun cat show on Saturday to help raise funds to keep the shelter running.

Cats and their owners will be invited into the Scotlandwell cattery and they will be judged for fun prizes in front of an audience of adoring fans.

Rhona Gordon, one of the coordinators at the cat shelter, said she hopes to see lots of confident cats at the show. She said: “It is basically a fundraising event to raise money for the shelter because our vet bills are astronomical.

“We will have a fun cat show and owners who feel confident about their cats can bring them to be viewed for prizes for things such as the longest whiskers or the shortest legs, silly things like that.

“People can come in and see the different cats on the day and someone will come and judge the winners for the different categories.

“Every cat will get a rosette but this is mainly to let people show off their pets and for cat lovers to come in and admire them all.”

The fundraising show will also have a tombola and a bric-a-brac stall as well as home baking on offer.

There will also be an auction for a Steven Brown framed print, which has been donated to the Causeway Cattery.

Rhona said the whole team at Fife Cat Shelter are looking forward to the cat show. She said: “We have been here for 25 years, so this will be an anniversary event as well.

“We have an open day every year but a lot of people contact us and tell us all about how well their cats are doing, so we thought it would be a fun idea to let people show off their felines in a cat show!”

The cats taking part in the show all need to be vaccinated and checked by the cattery’s vet.

The event will run from 10am until 1pm and is open to all members of the public.
