Get scam aware at bank’s anti-fraud day

-

An anti-fraud day to help people be more aware of scams will be held in Perth next week.

Santander bank on the Fair City’s High Street will be holding the anti-fraud day on Wednesday, February 28 to help people learn more about how to deal with potential scams, and get to grips with digital banking.

The day is open to everyone, not just those who bank with Santander.

Tony Wong, a customer adviser and“digital master”at the Perth branch said:“We want to educate customers with what to look out for. There is a big awareness of scams now, a lot of people come in to us with emails and phone calls they have received.

“There is still a lot of people getting defrauded because they don’t know what to look out for, and they get scared into giving details across.

“This anti-fraud day will raise awareness of this issue, and we will also use it as an opportunity to take people through digital banking.”

The trading standards team from Perth and Kinross Council will be on hand in the morning, and will be training the staff members on anti-fraud tactics.

Fraud specialists from Police Scotland’s Tayside division will also be on hand from 10am until 2pm.

Mr Wong continued:“We will be out in the front hall all day talking to people about the different scams and showing them the signs to look out for.

“Anyone can come in, it is open to everyone.

“I have helped a lot of customers who have been victims of fraud, and it really hits home. There is nothing worse than seeing customers who have been fraud victims.”

The branch will be open from 9am until 5pm throughout their anti-fraud day.

A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said:“Perth and Kinross Council’s trading standards service is attending Santander’s anti-fraud event.

“Trading standards officers will be training Santander employees how to identify possible scam victims as well as customers who may be prey to bogus workmen.

“The training will include what to look out for as well as how to intervene and who to contact.
