Saints looking more like team of old, says Millar

- Matthew Gallagher

Kane gave the County defence a tough afternoon St Johnstone ................. 2 Ross County .................. 0 Chris Millar reckons the St Johnstone of old have made a reappearance in recent weeks.

The experienced midfielder helped Saints climb further away from the drop zone with a vital victory against bottom-of-the -Premiership Ross County.

Murray Davidson’s first-half double inspired Tommy Wright’s men, whose win was their first at McDiarmid in five months.

“There was pressure on us,” Millar said. “If we had lost we would have been only three points ahead of Ross County.

“Now we are nine ahead with two games in hand which makes a big difference. We are still looking to take it a game at a time and win as many as possible.

“It was important to get a good result after the Celtic game. To get a point there was brilliant.

“You need to win the battle in the first 15 minutes and I thought we did that.

“Myself and Murray Davidson won the battle and the boys at the back were winning everything. Kano and Macca worked their socks off up top.

“I feel the past few weeks have been back to the old St Johnstone – a team that is hard to beat and works hard for each other. It feels good and hopefully we can continue it.

“The gaffer said it was getting back to basics. There was an experienced spine on Saturday with Ando, myself, Murray and Macca. At times I think we have missed that.

“I thought Murray was outstanding and even at the end he was running beyond the strikers. He put in a real performance and deserved his two goals.”
