Alleged robbery at hotel

- Court reporter

Two men appeared in court this week accused of an armed raid on a jewellery store in Gleneagles Hotel.

Richard Fleming, 42, and Liam Richardson, 29, are alleged – while masked and armed – to have robbed the store of dozens of watches estimated to be worth more than £500,000.

On Wednesday, they appeared in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow accused of a string of offences.

Prosecutors claim that Fleming and Richardson, along with another man carried out the robbery at the Mappin and Webb Boutique at Gleneagles Hotel, Auchterarder, Perthshire, on June 27, last year.

It is alleged that all three, who were masked and in possession of hammers, a machete and a self-loading pistol, smashed display cabinets and grabbed the watches.

They are also alleged to have threatened staff at the hotel with the weapons.

Prosecutors claim that the raiders made their getaway in a stolen Audi A4 before abandoning it at Gleneagles station and spraying it with bleach, then drove to Glasgow in a stolen Range Rover Evoque and set fire to it at St Peter’s Cemetery, London Road, Glasgow, in an attempt to defeat the course of justice.

Both men pleaded not guilty to all these charges.

Fleming is also accused of, while acting with another, breaking into two houses in St Andrew’s and stealing a Louis Vuitton scarf and box, a Hermes scarf, sunglasses, jewellery and Louis Vuitton bags a money and a driving licence. These offences are alleged to have taken place on June 12, 2017.

He offered to plead guilty to those charges, but the pleas were not accepted by the Crown.

Kirsty Fleming, 44, from Glasgow, denies resetting a Louis Vuitton bag and a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice. Janette McGregor, 63, from Glasgow, denies reseting a Louis Vuitton scarf and box.

Richard Fleming, McGregor and Sinitta Senior, 29, from London, are accused of concealing, transferring and removing £11,710 of criminal property from England to Scotland.

Fleming and McGregor pleaded not guilty, Senior has not yet entered a plea.

No trial was set and judge Lord Mulholland ordered a further hearing later this month.

A date for the trial, which will last around five weeks, is expected to be set then.
