Photo plea as MP wages war on potholes

- Douglas Dickie

Drivers in Perth and Kinross are being urged to send their photos of potholes to an MP.

Pete Wishart MP yesterday slammed the state of the roads and said images of holes would boost his attempt to get them fixed.

The representative for Perth and North Perthshire said: “Anybody driving on the roads right across Perth and Kinross could only conclude that they are an absolute disgrace.

“Potholes have rarely been worse and constituents of mine are furious about the damage these potholes are doing to their vehicles.

“The Tories came to power as the great pothole crusaders vowing that more potholes would be fixed and that they would ‘fix them right.’ Instead Perthshire potholes are worse than ever and the change of policy on pothole repairs has been an abject failure. It is almost unbelievable that the Tories are also spending more money than ever after having raided reserves to pay for their disastrous approach.

“The recent dreadful weather has only made the county’s potholes worse and we need to be confident that the council’s approach is both robust and timely. The [Tories] council’s approach is neither of those and leaving potholes unattended for days a disaster.

“I would encourage anyone across Perthshire to get in touch with me and I will promise to pass on any images of particularly troublesome potholes to the council. Maybe in seeing the scale of the problem the great Tory pothole crusaders will get on their capes and get our roads sorted.”
