Runners beat the weather

The‘Beast from the East’was no match for the green vests this week.

Especially for two members of the Perth Road Runners who jetted off to sunnier climes to race the Cyprus 10k.

Paul Grace and Daile Sipple were flying the Fair City flag with Paul finishing 44th overall in a time of 43:56.

Daile was fifth in her age group with a time of 51:12.

While almost all racing was cancelled on home soil due to heavy snow, the Nairn 10k did get the green light.

Garry Smith travelled north to represent the Perth club and clocked a time of 41:51.

At Perth Parkrun, 38 hardy runners took to the North Inch for the double loop course.

Kevin Riddell was the first across the line in an impressive 19:44, especially given the conditions, followed by Ronnie Glen in 19:58.

Next for the Road Runners was James Fotheringh­am who was fifth overall in a time of 21:01, while Martin McEwen ran 21:16.

For the ladies, Claire Douglas produced a solid performanc­e to cross the finish line as first woman overall in 23:46.

She was followed by Gillian Edwards in 26:18, Fiona Manson in 27:16 and Sarah Hammersley in 28:29. Alan Watson also celebrated his 100th parkrun in the snow and ice of the North Inch.

Tuesday evening is the regular club night run where members meet at Bell’s Sports Centre at 6.20pm for a sharp 6.30pm start.

There are several groups accommodat­ing all paces and all are welcome to join.

Thursday alternates between hill sessions and track sessions.
