A motorist lost control of his Mercedes, mounted the pavement and crashed into a parked car.

And when his details were checked by police, it emerged his licence had been revoked - and he had no insurance.

Allan Gibson (64), of St Serf ’s Place, Crook of Devon, had an interim driving ban imposed at Perth Sheriff Court.

He will discover how long he is off the road after a background report has been prepared.

He admitted driving without a licence or insurance on Junction Road, Station Road and Emslie Drive, Kinross, on December 1 last year.

He also pled guilty to driving carelessly and hitting the parked car. A further charge of stealing a TV from the Kinross branch of Sainsbury’s on November 30, 2017, was also admitted.

Solicitor John McLaughlin said he had been on a methadone programme but that had stopped.

“Unfortunately the cravings returned and he started misusing heroin again.”

Sheriff Gillian Wade called for a Community Justice Social Work report and deferred sentence until April 11. The background to the incidents will be given then.
