More candidates to stand in by-election
Two more candidates have been announced for next month’s council by-election.
Mary McDougall will be standing for the Scottish Green Party and Avril Taylor will be standing as an independent candidate in the Highland ward by-election.
The two women will be looking to win votes across Highland Perthshire in the hope of becoming an elected member of Perth and Kinross Council.
Mary McDougall stood for the Highland ward at the local government elections in May last year. She was unsuccessful in being elected after only receiving 168 first preference votes. She was beaten to the post by Mike Williamson, Xander McDade and the late Ian Campbell.
Independent Avril Taylor said she will be looking to address the issues facing rural communities whilst remaining free from political restrictions.
The two will stand against John Duff for the Conservatives, ex-councillor John Kellas for the SNP, and Chris Rennie for the Liberal Democrats at the by-election on Thursday, April 19.
The by-election is being held to replace council leader Ian Campbell, who passed away last month.
The Scottish Labour Party is still in talks about what its plans are for the Highland ward by-election.
