The Perth faithful were wanting more than four but chalking down three valuable points was the main concern for boss Tommy Wright and his players.

Wright certainly enjoyed this afternoon of football. At full-time he showed his passion by orchestrat­ing the delighted Saints support.

Those scenes followed an unsavoury end to the game when Dens manager Neil McCann was involved in a heated exchange with the Perth dug-out.

Earlier an own goal from Jordan Piggott got the ball rolling before Chris Kane tucked home a second with the half-time whistle still to sound.

There was further pain for Dundee after the break when Blair Alston penned his name on the scoresheet before Kane rounded off a spectacula­r performanc­e.

“Everyone knows that derby games mean more to the fans than any other game, the players know that,” said a delighted Alston after the game.

“We’ve been a bit frustrated recently with games against Dundee, having played well and not got results.

“The fans would have been disappoint­ed so it’s nice to get a good result for them to go into work on Monday morning with.

“We had to go out and make ourselves hard to beat and break on them.

“They like to play out from the back and we thought if we pressed them high, then
