Patients need relief if they are in pain

-

Dear Editor I have recently heard of two ladies, both in their 80s, who have seriously fractured limbs – one in her arm and the other in her leg.

One lives in Perth and the other in Fife.

In both cases their local hospitals have ruled out repair operations because of risk from a general anaesthetic.

They now must be in severe pain for the rest of their lives, and be dependant on daily assistance.

I realise that neither surgeon wants a fatality on their record, but I think it is better to take the risk.

I am in my 90s and, so far, have not had similar accidents, but would like to be given the option, rather than suffer for years and depend on others. Morag J McConnell Kincarrathie Home for the Elderly, Pitcullen Crescent Perth words about getting to grips with potholes.

However, actions speak louder than words.

What we have seen are measures approved to let potholes get even worse before they do anything about them and a Tory budget that promised nothing extra for our roads.

That was before the recent bad weather and as soon as the snow goes we’ll see another crop of potholes.

I notice that the SNP budget proposals promised an extra £5 million to be spent repairing our roads on top of the extra they spent last year.

I can’t believe I’m the only one who’ll be using the by-election in April to back sensible measures for our roads by supporting the SNP. Ian Gilbert Address supplied
