Two Perthshire buildings have been nominated for a prestigious architecture award.

Both Perth Theatre and Guardswell Farmhouse, near Inchture, have been shortlisted for the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) annual awards.

More than 75 entries were made to this year’s competition, with the two Perthshire venues making their way onto the 25-strong shortlist for 2018.

The iconic Perth Theatre opened at the end of last year after an extensive £16.6m refurbishment, which saw the original Edwardian auditorium upgraded and a new entrance created off Mill Street.

The theatre now also includes a new studio theatre, rehearsal rooms and exhibition space.

Guardswell Farmhouse in Kinnaird near Inchture is a popular wedding and function venue, with rustic firepits and a granarys.

Stewart Henderson, president of RIAS, said: “When shortlisting this year’s entries for awards the panel were struck by the continuing highs standard of submissions.

“The quality of architecture being produced the length and breadth of the country is hugely impressive. Practices, large and small, continue to demonstrate the strength and purpose of the profession in Scotland.”

The two venues will now need to wait to hear if they have won the overall RIAS prize.
