Busy week for the SCAA

-

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) has flown far and wide in the past week, attending emergencies in the islands and the borders as well as closer to home.

The charityfunded helicopter air ambulance’s speed and manoeuvrability makes it the perfect platform to transport critical care clinicians to serious emergencies throughout Scotland - especially to remote and rural locations.

This week, SCAA was called on two separate occasions to airlift doctor-led teams from Glasgow to medical emergencies at Rothesay and the Isle of Skye.

SCAA also landed at Millport on the Isle of Cumbrae this week to airlift a woman with a serious medical condition to hospital on the mainland.

The emergency transfer to Crosshouse Hospital at Kilmarnock took only 10 minutes by air - a journey that would have taken over an hour and a half by road.

And the call for another emergency medical transfer took the crew to Dunoon where they airlifted a seriously ill man to the Royal Alexandra Hospital at Paisley - again saving a considerable time and ensuring the patient’s comfortable and speedy transfer to advanced hospital care.

A flight to Berwick saw SCAA paramedics assist land crew colleagues in another emergency call out.

Closer to home, paramedics dealt with an ill man from Perth Airport who presented on their doorstep. The team was able to assess, treat and reassure the patient before he was discharged.

And a holidaymaker was grateful for SCAA’s attentions when he took ill at a Perth hotel this week.

SCAA paramedics raced to the scene in their land vehicle and assessed and treated the man before he was transported to Perth Royal Infirmary by Scottish Ambulance Service colleagues.

* * * Rotary clubs throughout Scotland have been great supporters of SCAA since it was first launched in service in 2013.

Clubs in Perth and Kinross who have donated within the past week include Aberfeldy and District with a donation of £100.

And members of Auchterarder and District Rotary Club hit the perfect note with a £1500 donation from their charity musical evening at the end of 2017.

Thanks also to Craig and Moncrieffe Church Guild who handed in a donation of £60 this week. This guild is a regular supporter of SCAA with donations to date totalling £259.

An intrepid mother and son from Perth are taking part in a sponsored skydive later this month to raise funds for SCAA. The pair, who were each given their skydive as a present, have raised an impressive £2320 through their Just Giving page to date with just over a week to go before their Easter weekend adventure.

Collecting cans placed throughout Scotland continue to pour out much needed funds when emptied and counted at SCAA. Among those placed locally spilling out their valuable contents this week were those from:

The Country Store, Kinloch Ranch £148.76; Horn Cafe, Errol £49.13; South Inch Osteopath, Perth £32.28; Fearnan Village Association £115.66 and Lamb & Gardiner, Inchmichael Garage, Errol £31.95.
