50th milestone marked
A well-known Blairgowrie couple celebrated 50 years of marriage on Friday.
Ethel and Ken Dow were married in Coupar Angus Abbey Church by Rev William Cochrane, assisted by Rev RM Howieson of St Andrew’s Church, Blairgowrie, on March 23, 1968.
On leaving Blairgowrie High School Mr Dow served an apprenticeship as a compositor with the Blairgowrie Advertiser and then worked for several years with the Perthshire Advertiser.
When he and Ethel married they emigrated to Ontario, Canada, where Mr Dow held several posts in the printing industry.
They returned to Blairgowrie in 1982 and took over The Hub Restaurant at 23 High Street and ran it as Dow’s Restaurant for nine years.
Mr Dow worked with Davidsons Veterinary in retail and deliveries before retiring in 2009.
Mrs Dow was a receptionist at Strathmore Surgery, on Jessie Street in Blairgowrie, from 1991 until she retired in 2010.
Both are prominent members of Blairgowrie Parish Church.

Mrs Dow is a leading member of the Guild.
A lunch for family and close friends was held in
the town’s Royal Hotel on Saturday. It was attended by their son Bruce and daughter Allison and two grandsons.
