A stretch of M90 to close for roadworks

Drivers told to plan their journey

- Staff reporter

A section of the northbound M90 between Arlary and Muirmont near Glenfarg is set to benefit from £240,000 resurfacing improvements this week.

The works will allow teams to carry out surface patching repairs across sections of the route, addressing any potholes, cracks or other defects in the road surface.

This northbound section of the M90 is used by around 14,200 vehicles every day and it now requires surfacing works.

The resurfacing began on Monday, March 26 and will continue for four nights.

The work will take place between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night.

However, the scheme requires specific weather conditions to be completed and should any adverse weather conditions arise then the resurfacing will be rescheduled. To allow the works to take place safely, the northbound carriageway on the M90 will be closed between Junction 8 (Arlary) and Junction 9 (Muirmont).

During the northbound closure, all vehicles heading north will be diverted off the M90 at Junction 8 (Arlary) and then diverted via the A91, B996, A912 to Bridge of Earn to re-join the northbound M90 at Junction 9 (Muirmont).

The southbound M90 will be unaffected during the project.

A lane closure will be in place during the daytime from today (Tuesday, March 27) for three days, with the works expected to be completed by Friday morning at 6.30am.

Consultation has taken place with local residents and stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Commenting on the improvements, Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East representative, said: “This project will allow teams to safely carry out repairs to various potholes, cracks or other road defects in the northbound carriageway between junctions eight and nine, meaning a safer and smoother journey for motorists.

“We’ve planned these works to take place overnight as well as avoiding working at the weekend to limit the impact to road users as much as possible.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible, however we encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance and allow some extra time to reach their destination.

“The timing of this project has been planned to minimise disruption and we thank motorists for their patience during these improvement works on the M90.”

Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org, twitter @ trafficscotland or the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
