Non-harassment order imposed

- Court reporter

A three-year Non-Harassment Order has been imposed on a Perth man who subjected his former partner to nine days of torment.

Craig Shearer, 47, of Ballantine Place, also had a Community Payback Order imposed at Perth Sheriff Court as an alternative to a jail sentence.

As part of that order, he will be supervised by a social worker for 12 months in a bid to prevent any repetition of his behaviour.

He admitted that between June 7 and 16 last year, at a house in Kingskettle, he engaged in a course of conduct that caused Sandra Watson fear or alarm.

The court was told that he repeatedly went to her home and went in, uninvited, and also approached her while she was in a car and tried to get into the vehicle. He also drove slowly past her house in the Fife village, stared at her and stood at her garden wall.

Part of the charge which alleged that he stared through her windows was deleted.

Shearer also pled guilty to a second charge of repeatedly sending text messages to her on June 29, 2017, while subject to a court order banning him from having any contact.

Depute fiscal Robbie Brown said the woman had asked for a five-year NonHarassment Order.

But the court felt that was excessive and limited it to three.

Sheriff Gillian Wade warned Shearer that if he didn’t comply with any aspects of the Community Payback or Non-Harassment Orders, he could end up behind bars.
